Contact Lenses

Am I a good candidate for contact lenses?

Have you tried wearing contacts in the past without success? You may not have tried the best type of contact lens for your eyes.

There are many types of modern contact lenses designed to correct a variety of conditions, such as:

  • Nearsightedness
  • Farsightedness
  • Astigmatism
  • Keratoconus
  • Dry eyes

With the right lenses, almost anyone can wear contacts, including responsible children and teenagers. However, there are a few eye conditions that don’t work with contact lenses, like a damaged cornea or very high astigmatism.

How are contact lenses prescribed?

To prescribe contact lenses, your Santa Rosa Optometry provider performs a comprehensive eye exam. This allows them to determine the level of vision correction you need, and identify any other concerns such as astigmatism or dry eyes. After discussing your options for contact lenses, you’ll go home with a trial set of contacts to wear for a few weeks.

When you return for your checkup after your trial period, your provider will ask you questions about how the lenses feel in your eyes, and whether you’re comfortable with the routine care required for that particular type of lens. They’ll also examine your eyes and test your vision while you wear your contacts, to ensure the lenses sit correctly on the surface of your eyes and allow you to see as well as you should.

If your prescription or the fit of your lens needs adjusting, or you’d like to try a different type of lens, you’ll receive another set of trial contacts. If you’re comfortable in your trial lenses and your vision is properly corrected, the friendly team will order your full set of contact lenses, which should arrive in the office within a week.

What types of contacts are available?

Contact lenses are designed to accommodate a range of vision correction needs and eye conditions. Contacts can even change the color of your eyes, regardless of whether you need vision correction.

Santa Rosa Optometry offers a broad range of contact lens options, including:

  • One-day disposable lenses

The friendly team is experienced with patients who have hard-to-fit conditions and will take the time to ensure you find the contacts that work best for your unique eyes. To find out more, call Santa Rosa Optometry today, or make an appointment online.
