What types of lenses are available for my glasses?

An array of lens options in a variety of materials is available at Santa Rosa Optometry. Some of the most common types of lenses include:

High-index

These are thin, lightweight lenses typically used for higher prescriptions. Unlike other types of lenses, these have less distortion so you won’t have to worry about the “Coke bottle” effect that high prescriptions can create.

Multifocals

If you have separate prescriptions for daily vision, reading, driving, and working on the computer, you may need bifocals, trifocals, or progressives. Multifocal lenses allow you to wear one pair of glasses even when you need multiple prescriptions.

Polycarbonate

These hard plastic lenses are durable and UV resistant. They are popular for active people and are often used in sunglasses.

Transitions

If you work outside or you move in and out of doors frequently, Transitions® lenses offer comfort and UV protection. These lenses darken in bright light and then become clear again when you return to average lighting.

The experienced team at Santa Rosa Optometry will discuss all of your options so you can choose the best lenses for your individual needs.

What kind of glasses are best for my child?

Santa Rosa Optometry carries many frames for children, including hard-to-break designs such as memory metal frames that can withstand bending and twisting. Choosing a heavy-duty polycarbonate lens and adding a protective coating can also help prevent lenses from scratching and breaking.

Most glasses come with a warranty, so if your child does break their glasses, it won’t break the bank!
